Commission authorizes submission of Kansas Water Office grant application for Water Reuse Project

The Garden City City Commission on Sept. 16 authorized staff to submit a grant application to the Kansas Water Office’s Water Projects Grant Fund for additional funding toward the Garden City Water Reuse Project.
Mike (city staff) explained that House Bill 2302 increased state funding available through the State Water Plan Fund and that the city previously received $300,000 from the Kansas Water Office for the reuse project. Staff proposed applying for an additional $700,000 through the Water Projects Grant Fund; if awarded, the combined $1 million in state funds would reduce the city’s non‑federal match obligation for the project as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) federal grant program.

Commissioners approved the motion authorizing submission. Staff indicated they would complete the Water Projects Grant Fund packet and submit it on schedule.
