Council members on Thursday gave several public-works updates and fielded resident questions about local infrastructure and municipal debt.
Residents and council members reported recent paving on Grove Avenue and Broward Street, and the administration said Brunswick Avenue’s water-main break was repaired using an emergency contract. A staff member said the county is studying the Inman Avenue and Old Raritan Road intersection and the township will follow up with county officials.
On municipal facilities, council members said demolition work has begun at the Stelton Community Center site and construction permitting is underway. The Ferrante House is undergoing environmental testing for mold and asbestos before any rehabilitation work; staff said further remediation planning will follow once studies are complete.
A resident raised concerns about the township’s reported debt totals, citing a figure she saw online that showed $116 million in January 2025 and, she said, a higher number after bond ordinances. Council Vice President Poynter clarified that some published totals include authorized but not yet issued bonds and that the December debt statement includes items not yet bonded. He said recent bond ordinances increase authorized debt but do not necessarily mean all amounts have been issued.
No new capital appropriations were approved at Thursday’s meeting; council members said they would follow up with more precise debt detail if requested.
