City staff told the Parks and Recreation Board on Oct. 10 that they are preparing a sponsorship packet for parks across Fulshear, with Primrose Park and Eagle Landing the primary near-term focus.
The proposed packet will list sponsorship items by park (for example, scoreboards, bleachers, benches, trash cans and fence signage), provide brief descriptions and suggested pricing/term structures, and include options for naming and multi-year sponsorships. Staff said they are modeling the packet on another local fundraising template and expect to present a draft to the board in November.
Why it matters: Board members argued that donors and local businesses are likelier to sponsor a specific, pictured item (for example, a scoreboard or bench) than to donate to a general 'parks fund; staff said sponsorship proceeds could be applied to current or future capital needs and might be rolled back into park funds where appropriate.
Key fundraising points and board guidance
- Scoreboards: Staff proposed two scoreboards in the initial round and discussed limiting hardwired boards to prioritized fields. Board members debated whether to prioritize modern, integrated digital scoreboards compatible with smartphone apps (e.g., GameChanger) versus simple basic scoreboards; several members favored two basic boards initially to encourage sponsorship.
- Benches and appurtenances: Board asked staff to include photos and exact models for benches, trash cans and other fixtures so sponsors can see what their funds would purchase. Staff confirmed appurtenances would be consistent across parks where funds allow.
- Sponsorship terms: Staff proposed multi-year sponsorship terms for major items (example discussed: a multi-year term for scoreboard signage) and recommended allowing sponsors to fund items already purchased and have the funds redeployed to other parks if desired.
- Fundraising channels: Board members suggested fence signage, engraved bricks, and scoreboard ads as revenue streams; the group discussed whether to run some sponsorships as city-led or allow leagues (once established) to sell fence/banner space themselves as a regular fundraising tool.
Ending: Staff said a sponsorship brochure and packet will be drafted and brought to the board in November for review, including a prioritized list of items the board wants included.
