The City Council approved two items to support capital work at the Carmel fire station and related municipal projects.
Council members approved a construction contract to carry out internal repairs and alterations to accommodate a new engine and apparatus. The work will modify apparatus bay access and internal systems to meet the new vehicle’s size and operations requirements. The council also approved a professional‑services contract (not to exceed $146,000) with a construction and project management firm to oversee implementation of several capital projects, including the fire‑station alterations and related municipal facilities work.
Council members said the awards are intended to avoid future emergency procurement, to ensure timely oversight and to keep the capital program on schedule. The council voted 5–0 on both items.
The items were presented to the council as part of the orders of business; staff noted the scope, procurement method and budget authority in each staff report. The professional services contract will help the city manage multiple projects while maintaining day‑to‑day operations, staff said.
