Council authorizes county grant applications for park trail connectivity and City Park playground upgrades

The Montebello City Council voted to authorize applications for two Los Angeles County Measure A–funded park grants: a regional recreation/trails and accessibility grant to create a walking trail and renovate Reggie Park, and a separate application to fund replacement and ADA upgrades at City Park's North Playground.
Staff said the regional grant application targets up to $4 million to build a walking trail that would connect neighborhoods to the Rio Hondo riverbed, renovate the baseball field, replace restrooms, create a multiuse court (basketball/pickleball/futsal), and improve irrigation for water conservation. Staff described the project as providing regional connectivity and noted comparable county-funded projects.
For City Park, staff said the application would fund demolition and replacement of playground equipment, installation of ADA-accessible paths, and related improvements. Staff said the city has available Measure A funds to provide a local match and that the county expects to announce awards by March, though timelines can vary.
Council members expressed support, particularly noting the need to upgrade long-serving park facilities. Both grant resolutions passed by roll call vote (5-0). Staff noted the city has a match available and will return with implementation details if awarded.
