Douglas High to pilot WestEd-integrated statistics and quantitative-reasoning course under MOU

The Douglas Unified School District governing board voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with WestEd to participate in development and piloting of an integrated statistics and quantitative-reasoning (QISR/ISQR) course.
Superintendent Samaniego said Douglas High School staff had already begun meeting with WestEd as part of the initiative. Board discussion identified the work as a pilot that will develop course materials and lesson plans this year for classroom testing before wider implementation.
Mr. Otto Merro, a Douglas High teacher participating in the project, told the board the aim is to integrate quantitative reasoning into statistics with "more real world application" and to test lesson plans with students so the district can provide feedback for course implementation. He said two Douglas High students are part of the advisory work and will provide feedback on the curriculum.
The board approved the MOU by roll call. Board members said the pilot gives Douglas staff and students a voice in regional curriculum development and welcomed progress reports as the district tests materials in classrooms.
