A committee of the Utah State Board of Education on Friday approved draft exit and engagement surveys that will be incorporated by reference into rule R277325 and forwarded to the full board for final action.
A staff presenter summarized the two instrument drafts and the recent edits requested by the board. The presentation said the exit survey is given when an educator leaves the profession in Utah; the engagement survey is administered biennially. Staff said they had adjusted question wording to reflect board feedback and to improve data filtering.
A committee member moved to approve R277325, "Public education exit and engagement surveys," referencing the engagement survey as the incorporated document on first reading and to forward it to the full board for second and final reading. The motion passed unanimously.
Committee members then considered the exit survey on first reading and, after discussion, the committee approved that draft on a separate motion; that vote was also unanimous. The committee later approved a related amendment and continuation motion for R277325 on first reading, forwarding it for continuation and final approval by the board; that vote was unanimous as well.
Board members asked staff to confirm minor housekeeping items in the drafts and noted small language changes tied to other code changes (for example, adjusting references after a climate survey schedule change). The committee did not adopt substantive new survey content; it approved the drafts as presented for consideration by the full board.
