Euclid civil service commissioners remove multiple names from police entry-level eligibility list, certify new list

The City of Euclid Civil Service Commission voted Oct. 7 to remove several candidates from the Euclid Police Department’s entry-level certified eligibility list and certified a new list dated Oct. 7, 2025.
Captain Olaszewski of the Euclid Police Department told commissioners, “We have, 2 that would like to be removed by their own request. We have 7 that we would like to remove for background issues, and we have, 1 for remove for cause. No response.” That account formed the basis for multiple motions to remove named candidates and to certify the revised list.
Commissioners voted to remove candidate number 37, Nicole Compton, and candidate number 1, Curtis Newlands, at the candidates’ request. The commission then approved removals for cause, described by staff as background issues, affecting candidate numbers 4 (Jordan Roberto), 7 (Malik Billingsley), 11 (Nathan Stachow), 13 (Clifford Landsness), 16 (Wesley Williams), 19 (Jamal Stratford) and 20 (Thomas Jackson). Separately, the commission voted to remove candidate number 8 (listed as Olajuwon Moten/Talajuan Moton in the record) for lack of response.
After those removals were approved, the commission voted to certify a new Euclid Police Department entry-level eligibility list dated 10/07/2025. The motions were moved by Commissioner Robinson and seconded by the presiding commissioner; roll-call votes recorded Commissioners Robinson and Giannakos voting in favor of the motions that were approved.
The agenda also included routine business: the commission approved minutes from a Sept. 29 special meeting and recorded a posted job opening for an operator at the Waste Water Treatment Center in the Department of Public Service (status A, classified B, nonexempt, FLSA). The meeting ended with an adjournment vote.
The commission’s actions change which applicants appear on the department’s certified list and leave the department with an updated entry-level eligibility list certified on Oct. 7, 2025. The record shows removals were attributed to candidates’ requests, background findings, or failure to respond; the commission did not adopt additional policy changes or direct further investigation during the session.
