Carrie Sternihan, acting city engineer for Kokomo City, told the Board of Public Works and Safety on Oct. 8 that contractor work on the Fire Station No. 6 reconstruction has progressed to site demolition, concrete footings and pad, submittals and erosion control and that additional remediation and scope changes were needed.
"I recommend the board of public works and Safety approve the application number 2 in the amount of $345,590.05 and change order number 1 in the amount of $41,946. In addition, $18,188.95 should be placed in escrow for retainage," Sternihan said during the meeting.
The board voted by voice to approve pay application No. 2 for $345,590.05, change order No. 1 for $41,946, and to place $18,188.95 in escrow as retainage. The motion was made and seconded and carried by voice vote.
Sternihan told the board that change order No. 1 covers additional asbestos remediation, a scope change that includes added curb work, and fire-protection modifications required by the water company. The meeting record did not provide further technical specifications, contractor name, or a revised contract total.
The board did not request additional public-reporting details at the time; no implementation timeline or new completion date was discussed during this agenda item.
