Oak Harbor Marina staff outlined plans for a community festival, Harvest at the Harbor, scheduled for Sept. 13 and asked commissioners to help promote and volunteer for the event.
Nut graf: The event is intended to broaden local awareness of the marina, invite non-mariners to visit, and include family-friendly activities such as boat tours, a scavenger hunt, a rain-gutter regatta, food trucks and vendor tables from marina businesses.
Harbormaster Elise said the marina will run boat tours, a scavenger hunt (staff will simplify clues for non-marina visitors), a rain-gutter regatta with hourly prizes, and confirmed a gumbo truck and hot-dog truck so far. The marina will operate 11 a.m.–2 p.m. for the first year with the option to expand hours in future years. "We're gonna have boat tours again similar to the birthday party that was held last September," Elise said.
Staff and commissioners also discussed recruiting local business table participants and volunteer staffing for the marina’s information table. The recreation and parks departments plan to partner on family activities: parks will bring a tractor for photos and recreation will bring crafts.
Ending: The event is set for Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; staff asked commissioners to help recruit volunteers and vendors and to bring suggestions back to the next meeting.
