Planning commission approves June 10 minutes; staff report notes director candidate near hire and vacancies

The City of Oak Harbor Planning Commission approved the June 10 meeting minutes by voice vote at its Aug. 12 meeting and later adjourned without further action.
A motion "to approve the minutes from June 10 as written" was moved by Commissioner Bridal and seconded by Commissioner Frey; commissioners voted "aye" and the motion passed. Later in the meeting a motion to adjourn was made and the commission closed the session.
Principal planner Kat Cammack delivered the department update and said the city is close to selecting a planning director. She told commissioners that candidates have been interviewed and that the city hopes to have a director in place in September depending on acceptance and relocation timing. Cammack also said associate planner Nolan Grunska has left the department and the city intends to wait until a new director is on board before recruiting for that position.
A commission member also urged residents to apply to the volunteer Planning Commission to fill three vacant seats, noting the commission is currently operating with a small quorum and that public participation strengthens planning outcomes. The commission's next scheduled meeting date was announced as Sept. 9, 2025.
No ordinances, resolutions, or policy votes were taken at this meeting beyond procedural approval of minutes and adjournment.
