Franklin City Police Merit Commission ratifies conditional offer for Sean Compton, administers oaths and approves claims

The Franklin City Police Merit Commission on Aug. 12, 2025, ratified a conditional offer of employment for applicant Sean Compton, administered oaths to three commissioners and approved the commission’s claims during a brief meeting.

The commission ratified the conditional offer for Sean Compton after the chair opened new business to confirm the dispatched offer. The commission’s police chief, Chief Summers, confirmed that Compton had passed required fitness testing. Commissioner Joe Allen moved to ratify the conditional offer and Dr. Schafer seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. The offer had been dispatched on July 21, 2025, according to commission discussion.

The commission also approved its claims for payment by voice vote earlier in the meeting. A commissioner moved to accept the claims, another commissioner seconded, and the motion passed; individual roll-call vote totals were not read aloud.

During the meeting the commission’s attorney administered oaths of office to three members who had signed their oaths that day: Dr. Schafer, Josh Shenafelt and Joey Hunt. The swearing occurred after the attorney opened the attorney’s report and asked the new members to raise their right hands.

The commission confirmed logistical details for upcoming candidate interviews. Commissioners set a Sept. 7 interview date with a 7:45 a.m. arrival and an 8:00 a.m. start at the police station. Commissioners noted the next regular meeting would be the Tuesday after Labor Day and expected to finalize any remaining preparations before the Sept. 7 interviews.

Actions taken during the meeting were by voice vote and recorded as passed. No motions were tabled or postponed and no formal dissenting votes were announced during the recorded proceedings.
