The Flat Rock City Council approved the parade route and tree-lighting event for Friday, Dec. 13, with a parade starting at 6 p.m. followed by a tree lighting and visits with Santa.

Mayor Beller told the council the route will follow the homecoming parade path. The council also noted Ford Motor Company's $2,500 donation toward the event; the mayor said other local businesses will be asked to contribute and that the city would rely on volunteer labor rather than contracting for tree installation.

Councilmembers volunteered to help with decorating; one councilmember and his wife specifically offered assistance. A motion approving the parade route and event passed by unanimous voice vote.

The Downtown Development Authority is undertaking a small-business Saturday program and a replacement for a passport promotion this season, and the council referenced DDA efforts when discussing community events and decorations.
