The Citizens Advisory Committee for the City of Port Richey voted to approve an amended mission statement during its meeting on Aug. 7.

Committee members approved language saying the group will provide “thoughtful recommendations to the city council by gathering community input, evaluating city initiatives, and promoting collaboration between residents and city leadership.” The amended text also lists priorities including sustainable development, public safety, economic vitality and preservation of Port Richey’s coastal character.

The committee discussed whether the new wording expands the panel’s role beyond previous practice; members emphasized that the committee remains an advisory forum rather than a policymaking body. Several members noted past CAC involvement in development reviews and community projects as examples of the committee’s advisory work.

The motion to approve the amended mission statement passed on a voice vote with members saying “aye.” No roll-call vote or named mover/second was recorded in the transcript.

The committee said the new statement will be forwarded to city council and used in outreach materials for committee recruitment and public information.
