Emily Jeffries, the early childhood assistant principal at Edgewood Elementary campus, said she will transition to principal of the school “in the next year.”
Jeffries, speaking during a school event, described her background with DC Prep PCS and her return to Edgewood Elementary. “I came from New York City where I started teaching as a special education teacher, and then I made my journey to DC and I found DC Prep,” she said. She said she began work at the Benning Elementary campus in 2012 as the special education coordinator and was part of the Benning community when it became a Blue Ribbon school.
“I fell in love with DC Prep. I saw their mission, I saw their drive, and I saw their commitment to all students,” Jeffries said. She told attendees she took time away from full-time work to spend “a little time home with my own kids” and later returned to several roles before coming back full time to Edgewood Elementary.
Jeffries emphasized her priorities for the school if she becomes principal: community, teacher support and student engagement. “I want you to know that I am your partner. I am your support, and I will be your biggest cheerleader as we watch your kids grow and watch them achieve all of their goals,” she said.
The statement did not specify a formal appointment date, a hiring body or any board action; Jeffries described the transition as occurring “in the next year.” No funding, policy changes or implementation steps were detailed in the remarks.
