The Harrison County Commission voted to allocate $2,500 to the Harrison County Composite Inc. (Mountaineers) to support youth trail maintenance at Watersmith Memorial State Park and other local projects.
Team representatives described the group as a youth-development mountain-bike program that provides trail maintenance through the state Teen Trail Corps program. Assistant coach Tristan Rozier and director Elio Kabuto told commissioners the team performed more trail volunteer hours than any other team in the state last year and sought funds to build wooden features, add drainage piping, soil and rock for a rehabilitated skills area at Watersmith. They said leftover funds would be applied to small maintenance projects such as bridge traction improvements and updated map kiosks.
Commission President Susan Thomas moved to increase the request to $2,500 (the group had sought $1,000); the motion carried unanimously. County officials praised the group for volunteer hours and youth development.
