The Elkhart City Board of Public Safety on Aug. 26 approved a $3,250 contract renewal for vehicle-download software used by the police department to extract data from vehicles involved in crashes or crimes.
The contract, described at the meeting as an annual renewal and cleared by city legal staff, was presented by the police chief and approved by unanimous voice vote. The chief said the software lets investigators retrieve vehicle data in ways similar to extracting data from cell phones, and called it “very helpful” for crashes or crimes involving vehicles.
