Commissioner Landis announces resignation; commission excuses Commissioner Wu from Sept. 8 meeting

During the director’s report at the Aug. 11 Mountlake Terrace Planning Commission meeting, the director said the commission had received an email from Commissioner Landis notifying staff that he intends to resign from the planning commission to focus on his expanding family. “We received an email today from Commissioner Landis letting us know that he is going to resign,” the director reported.

Commissioner Landis spoke to the commission and said the pregnancy was unplanned and that he had been “wrestling with this” but decided it would be better for his family and for the commission to have a member who can dedicate more time. “This was not a planned pregnancy. This was very much a surprise,” Landis said. He told the commission he could remain on the commission until a replacement is appointed, “up to the October,” and that he would try to attend at least one more meeting before he leaves.

The director said appointments to replace planning commissioners are made by the city council and that staff would notify the city manager so council could begin the appointment process. Commissioners thanked Landis for his service and expressed well wishes.

On other business the commission approved the July 28 meeting minutes as presented; no changes were offered. Later the commission considered a motion to excuse Commissioner Wu from the Sept. 8 meeting because of a travel commitment. A motion was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote; the chair declared the motion carried.

The chair gave a final call for miscellaneous business, heard none, and adjourned the meeting.
