Dan Powell, superintendent of schools for North Pocono SD, announced plans to launch a video series called "From the Superintendent's Desk" to highlight activities and developments across the district.
Powell opened the brief recorded message by introducing himself to the community and summarizing his background. "Good morning. My name is Dan Powell, and I'm the proud superintendent of schools here at North Pocono," he said, and noted he is a lifelong resident of the district and a 1991 graduate of North Pocono High School.
Powell provided biographical details he said he will reference as part of the series. He said he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from King's College and a Master in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University, and that he has 29 years in the field of education, all with North Pocono. He described his career path in the district, saying he started as an instructional aide in special education at the district's former Academy Street School, later served 10 years as a kindergarten teacher, spent three years as elementary assistant principal at Moscow Elementary Center and Academy Street School, was the first principal of North Pocono Intermediate School, and served 11 years as assistant superintendent before becoming superintendent.
"I love coming to work every day. I love this district. I love this community, and I'm proud to serve all of you as your superintendent," Powell said near the close of the message.
Powell told viewers to "be on the lookout for upcoming videos," indicating the series will include additional installments that highlight district programs and events. The message in the transcript consisted of a single short recorded update intended as an introduction to the planned communications series; no formal board actions, policy changes or funding items were discussed in the recorded remarks.
The series, as described in the message, is a communications effort by the superintendent's office to share information about district work and to introduce Powell to members of the community.
