Cowlitz County Health and Human Services asked the Board of Commissioners for just under $6,500 in veterans-relief funding to support a Veterans Stand Down scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3 at the event center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gina James, representing Health and Human Services, said the request would cover venue rental, a hot lunch for attendees, and "to-go" bags (water, granola bars and protein packs). The event brings together service providers offering employment, housing, legal aid and other support to veterans.
Commissioners recalled last year’s request: staff said the 2024 request had been for about $12,000 but actual use was about $6,000, so this year’s ask was pared to match likely needs. One commissioner said, "Based on what they were able to do last year, I don't have any issue with it." After brief discussion, commissioners indicated the item was "good to go," with no roll-call vote recorded in the transcript.
