Dawson County Family Connection asked the Dawson County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 21 to approve acceptance of a $3,300 Georgia Family Connection Partnership kinship caregiver support cohort grant.

The request, presented by Layla McBrayer, coordinator for Dawson County Family Connection, would let the county receive funds intended to provide "resources and programming for kinship caregivers, relatives, and guardians who step in to raise children when parents cannot," McBrayer said. She told commissioners the funding supports efforts to keep children "safe, connected, and out of foster care." McBrayer also thanked the county for serving as the fiscal agent and asked for formal approval to accept the grant.

Commissioners did not vote during the work session; the chairman recommended placing the item on the consent agenda for the next regular meeting.

If approved on the consent agenda, the county would accept and house the grant funds through its fiscal agent role; no additional county general-fund contribution was requested in the presentation.

The request was presented during the work session; staff asked the board to include the item on the upcoming consent agenda so the full board can take formal action at the next meeting.
