Farmington Hills City camps end season as campers, parents praise friendships and swimming

Camp staff and families at Farmington Hills City marked the end of the summer camp season with campers and parents saying friendships and swimming were among the top takeaways.

"Making new friends," a camper said when asked what they liked most about camp. Another camper named "swimming" as their favorite activity.

Camp staff led the wrap-up conversation and asked campers and parents about their favorite camp experiences. "Swimming has been a popular answer," the camp staff member said. Parents described a mix of activities and continuity: "I just love that there's a variety, and he's been here, I think, maybe 4 or 5 times this summer, and he's coming back next week," one parent said, adding that their child had done something different each week and appreciated both the counselors and the variety of activities.

Other parents praised specific programs and logistics. One parent said, "I really enjoyed, camp tours. We did tours in Penguin this year, and all the different activities, places that they were able to experience were was a really good choice." Another parent noted the counselors' engagement and the consistent routine: "I love how the counselors are very engaged with the children, and there's always different activities that they do. So for us and as a family, it's a really good place to bring your campers." A parent also noted meal routines, saying campers "always come home. Their lunch boxes are empty, so they're having their food and snacks and fun times."

Safety programming also appeared: a camper mentioned "Getting to see, like, the all the new things of the safety thing," and the staff member confirmed the camper was referring to Safety Town.

The staff member closed the session by thanking families and saying, "We look forward to all the campers and families that we'll see next year. Have a wonderful school year."
