Commissioner Weitz reported that township officials have raised concerns about harvest-season signs being pushed over or removed and about overweight vehicles using township and posted roads. He said the damage to signage is both a public-infrastructure and a public-safety issue and said he will follow up with the county highway department and township officials to identify locations for signage.
"There was some concern by several township officials now that, harvest season is pretty well over, but there were quite a few signs throughout the county that had been pushed over or taken down apparently from folks," Commissioner Weitz said. He added the issue involves both infrastructure wear and safety: "it is both public infrastructure but also a safety issue."
Weitz said he would contact the highway department and ask that they reach out to township officials to mark locations where signage is needed. He also expressed a goal of balancing support for agricultural activity with responsibility for protecting township roads.
