Commissioner Sean Roe reported to his fellow commissioners that the contractor managing removal of Cook Ferry spoils has asked to extend its contract for another year and increase the minimum payment rate.
Roe said the contractor is seeing higher volumes of material since the Port of Longview's veil project began and expects to approach contract minimums by December. The contractor requested an increase in the minimum from $1.50 to $1.75 per yard to account for uncertain market conditions in 2026. "They expect to see that very close by the December, but they would like to continue on," Roe said.
Roe told the board the county's royalty fee on the spoils would remain unchanged at $2.06 per yard. The board did not record a formal approval at the meeting; Roe said staff would proceed if the board was open to the extension.
No contract amendment or vote was recorded at the workshop; staff noted that material removed from dredging has been used in county parks and that keeping the spoil site clear supports future dredging opportunities.
