Public works staff presented photographs and a status update on the Hall of Justice building upgrades, reporting progress on electrical, HVAC and ceiling work.
Staff said switchgear demolition and installation occurred over Labor Day weekend and that electrical upgrades—including new conduit and smaller panel work—are continuing. They reported extensive ceiling removal in basement areas where cable and conduit work is being reorganized, and showed photos of temporary exposed conduit and insulation.
Public works told commissioners that an area with suspected asbestos in ceiling insulation was tested and confirmed negative; staff called that result "a great thing" because asbestos remediation would have substantially increased project costs. The presentation also showed new HVAC roof units with surge protectors installed. "We have surge protectors on each of our units, which is great for us moving forward in protecting us from malfunctions due to power loss and gain," staff said.
Work remaining includes coordinating space moves (the clerk's office and superior court administrative moves were reported as occurring or scheduled) and planning for the sheriff's office relocation as the largest remaining move. Staff did not propose any new contract awards or budget changes at the meeting.
