Planning commission adopts resolution honoring late commissioner Lisa Ketchum

The San Mateo County Planning Commission on May 14 adopted a resolution honoring the late commissioner Lisa Ketchum for her service to the county and coastal communities.
Commissioners and staff described Ketchum as a longtime coastal steward and dedicated volunteer whose work shaped local planning and conservation efforts. Director Steve Monowitz presented the resolution and said Ketchum “was, without a doubt, 1 of the best. She paid attention to details, asked important questions, was respectful to staff and the public, and had the ability to insightfully steer deliberations.”
The resolution drew public remarks from elected officials, local advocates and community members. Supervisor Ray Mueller told commissioners that Ketchum had been “the kindest, most self giving community volunteer” and said the county will name a trail at Pillar Point Bluffs in her memory. Lenny Roberts, speaking for Green Foothills, detailed Ketchum’s involvement on Midcoast issues including shoreline erosion, Highway 1 safety projects, and the establishment of rent protections for mobile home parks; Roberts said Ketchum’s work “should be a beacon of light and hope for all who share her community values.” Camille Leung and other colleagues described Ketchum’s technical knowledge and practical contributions to project conditions and long-range planning work.
Commissioner Gupta moved adoption of the resolution; Commissioner Hansen seconded. The commission voted unanimously: Commissioner Gupta — Aye; Commissioner Hansen — Aye; Commissioner Ramirez — Aye; Chair Serrano Quan — Aye. The motion carried.
The resolution recognizes Ketchum’s role in long-range planning efforts, local coastal program amendments, transportation planning and community preservation projects such as efforts at Pillar Ridge and Pillar Point Bluffs. Speakers noted ongoing projects and policy areas Ketchum had influenced, including habitat conservation, coastal access, and affordable housing efforts on the Midcoast.
The commission closed public comment after the testimonials and proceeded to the next scheduled agenda items.
