Juvenile eagle released at Cane Creek Park after rehabilitation

Union County Parks and Recreation staff and Carolina Waterfowl Wildlife Rescue released a juvenile eagle at Cane Creek Park after the bird spent time in a rehabilitation program, county staff said.

County staff said the release took place at Cane Creek because it is nearby and provides suitable habitat. "We chose Cane Creek. It's 1 of the largest lakes in the immediate area. This was the closest best place for this bird to be returned back to the wild," a representative of Carolina Waterfowl Wildlife Rescue said.

"Today here at Cane Creek Park, we were fortunate enough to partner with Carolina Waterfowl Wildlife Rescue here in Union County to release as a juvenile eagle that, spent some time in a rehabilitation process," Union County Parks and Recreation staff said. County staff thanked Carolina Waterfowl Wildlife Rescue for allowing county staff to participate in the release.

Meeting remarks noted that park visitors who find injured wildlife commonly contact local rescuers, and that local responders can reach incidents quickly.
