Board OKs Karen Bursh memorial dogwood at Bibich Elementary

The Lake Central Board approved a request on Oct. 6 to plant a memorial flowering dogwood at Bibich Elementary in memory of Karen Bursh. Facilities staff said the donor established an endowment that supplies annual funds to help Bibich students with negative food-service balances and to purchase classroom supplies if funds remain.
Facilities staff described a 3-inch-caliper flowering dogwood to be planted northwest of the new cafeteria glass, and said a local landscaper has assisted with siting and selection. The donor plans to plant the tree this fall pending board approval; the donor will cover the plant and landscaping costs and the district will provide site coordination and labor where needed.
A motion to accept the request was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members asked staff to inform the donor about scheduling once arrangements are set.
