Planning staff: housing rezonings under way; Pescadero waterline, farmworker housing efforts moving forward

At the July 23 meeting staff briefed the Planning Commission that rezonings to implement the housing element have begun, construction on the Pescadero waterline extension will start in August, and a farmworker housing loan and streamlining effort is being advanced.
San Mateo County planning staff told the Planning Commission on July 23 that several administrative and capital projects are moving forward: rezonings needed to implement the county housing element are underway under contract with a consultant; construction of the Pescadero waterline extension (to bring CSA 11 water to the high school) is scheduled to begin in August; and the county is advancing a streamlining program and a replenished farmworker housing loan fund to encourage repairs or new farmworker housing.
Mike Manowitz, director with the county planning department, said the rezonings are being advanced “as quickly as possible” to help the county meet state housing requirements. Staff said the farmworker housing loan program will prioritize farms with identified substandard housing and that outreach to farm owners and operators is beginning.
The commission was also advised of the August 13 meeting date (to be held in chambers) and a preliminary agenda that includes a general plan conformity request from the Granada Community Services District and several coastal development and design review items.
