Free civics workshop for Kershaw County announced with three local sessions

Autumn Dunlap told the Kershaw County School District Board of Trustees on Aug. 5 that a free, nonpartisan civics education workshop for county residents will be offered in two parts and in multiple locations to reach more of the county.
Dunlap, who identified herself as an organizer, said Part 1 is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 17 on Chestnut Ferry Road in Camden; Part 2 is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Louis C. Proctor Hall in Camden. The organizer said parts 1 and 2 will be presented together on Saturday, Sept. 27 in Bethune. She said the events are nonpartisan, free with preregistration and that a handout with a QR code and registration link was provided to the board.
Dunlap said the workshop will cover local government functions, guidance on communicating with elected officials, public-comment procedures at local meetings and voter-registration information for Kershaw County. "This is an informative and nonpartisan opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about local government and build better civil engagement," she said.
Dunlap asked board members to attend if possible and said organizers request preregistration so materials can be prepared; a $5 cash donation at the door will be accepted for those who arrive without having preregistered. The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action on the workshop.
