Commission sets aside more than $650,000 to repair rail-trail section between Mount Clare and Lost Creek

The Harrison County Commission on Oct. 1 approved work to repair the rail-trail section between the Mount Clare Fire Department and Lost Creek and set aside $656,912 based on a cost estimate from engineering firm Thrasher.
Commissioner Hinkle presented the Thrasher cost breakdown by section and said the project would help complete a continuous trail between VA Park and the Town of Lost Creek. "It came in at $656,912," Hinkle said when moving to set the money aside; Administrator and staff confirmed that the money was available.
Later in the meeting the county administrator read a motion allocating specific fund sources to the Rails-to-Trails project: $454,000 from fiscal years 2022–23 fund 027913 (improvement opportunity) and $246,000 transferred from General County account 401566 to project 001424458-01 (Rails to Trails). The motion, as read into the record by the administrator, carried by voice vote.
The commission did not discuss a construction schedule at the meeting. Staff were directed to proceed with the allocation and next steps for procurement and project delivery.
