Olathe South High School held its Class of 2025 commencement where Dr. Brent Yeager, superintendent of Olathe Public Schools, formally conferred diplomas after remarks from student leaders, faculty and school administrators.
The ceremony, presented by school leaders and staff, included opening remarks from student council president Bridal Scoville and vice president Addison Posch, a faculty address by Nikki Hoffman and speeches from selected student speakers that centered on the school's theme, "stay golden." Principal Dr. Sean Dimery told graduates the class had been offered "in excess of $500,000,000 in scholarship money." By the authority delegated by the Kansas State Board of Education and Unified School District 233 Board of Education, Yeager accepted the graduating students as meeting graduation requirements and conferred their diplomas.
Bridal Scoville, who identified herself as Olathe South student council president, opened the program and asked guests to allow each graduate to hear their name as it is called. "It is because of all of you that we have the honor of walking across the stage today and beginning the next phase of our lives," Scoville said during the opening remarks.
Principal Dr. Sean Dimery introduced the faculty and district leaders on stage and praised the graduating class for academic and extracurricular achievements. "By the most current figures we have, the class of 2025... has been offered in excess of $500,000,000 in scholarship money," Dimery said, noting the figure as an aggregate of scholarship offers to members of the class.
Mrs. Nikki Hoffman, the faculty address speaker selected by the senior class, urged graduates to embrace authentic effort over shortcuts, delivering a widely noted line: "But easy, easy is for losers." Other student speakers — including McKenna Aiello, Mary Fellingham, Grace Hartwell, Julia Hester, Noah Mabey and Austin Tran — reflected on resilience, community and memories under the theme "stay golden."
Board members Claire Reagan and Robert Kuhn joined district and school leaders on stage. Superintendent Dr. Brent Yeager read the official conferral: "By the authority of the powers delegated to superintendent by the Kansas State Board of Education and Unified School District 233 board of education, I accept these members of the 2025 graduating class of Olathe South High School as having met the requirements for graduation and do hereby confer upon them their diplomas."
Following the ceremonial turning of tassels, school staff instructed graduates that diplomas would be distributed on the soccer field for approximately 30 minutes. Announcements clarified that only graduates would be allowed onto the soccer field during diploma distribution and that there would be no formal recessional.
The ceremony included traditional elements — posting of colors, the national anthem and the alma mater — and read the names of the graduating students aloud as required by the district's graduation procedure. A full list of graduates was read during the ceremony.
The program concluded with reminders about diploma pickup logistics and a closing wish for graduates to "have a great evening."
