Families and other residents attended a kite festival hosted at an El Segundo park where organizers offered temporary tattoos, bubbles and Otter Pops and children flew kites.
The event drew parents and children who described the festival as fun and family friendly. “I think it's 1 of the favorites because just coming to the park and seeing all the kids running around, flying kites, just having a lot of fun and being able to do all the activities here. We're doing temporary tattoos. We also have bubbles to give away, and we're also gonna be handing out Otter Pops,” Resident 1 said.
The gathering included kite-flying activities. “So we're flying 2 kites with the kids. We've been doing this almost every year with El Alcigando. Great event, and we come here to have some fun,” Resident 3 said. Other attendees said they returned this year because children are older and better able to enjoy the event. “Our son was a little over 1 last year, so we wanted to come back this year and figure he'd be able to appreciate a little bit more this year,” Resident 4 said.
Several families described the weather as a draw. “Bright sunny day, and we had this kite festival here at El Segundo Parks and Rec. We are a big fan of the community,” Resident 5 said. Children described their kites: “Favorite today is about that I get to fly my kite and it flies so high. And my kite is like a purpley pinky, blue, new butterfly,” Resident 6 said.
Attendees said community events like the kite festival contribute to their decision to live in El Segundo. “We've been in El Segundo for almost 7 years now and we love it,” Resident 4 said. One parent noted it was a first-time kite-flying experience for a child and expressed hope for more frequent events.
