Luca Vangelista, a junior at Yorktown High School and the Yorktown Central School District Board of Education’s ex officio board alternate for this school year, said he will produce a short video “board minute” after each meeting to share what the board discusses with students and the broader community.
Vangelista said the new student communications series will summarize key points from board meetings. “I’m very excited to bring you guys the first edition of the Yorktown board minute,” he said. He described the effort as intended to “connect directly what was said at the board of education to the students at YHS and other parts of the district.”
Vangelista told the board several district updates he said were discussed at the meeting: the district’s “C lot” parking area was paved and striped over the summer; an “exclusive partnership” with Westchester Medical Center to support student mental and physical health for grades K–12 is being developed; and work on the baseball turf is slated to begin in 2026 with other athletic facility work to follow.
Vangelista said he and Hunter Mezzatesta, who will serve as the district’s first ex officio, have backing from “Dr. Hatter and the rest of the board” as they launch the program. He invited community members to send ideas and questions for the student video series.
The student noted that the next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 6.
Details Vangelista reported were presented as updates during the meeting; the board did not record a formal vote or adopt a motion in the portion of the transcript that included his remarks. The district did not provide further specifics on the partnership’s structure, funding or timeline in the remarks Vangelista delivered.
