Emergency Services Director Troy Lee told commissioners June 5 that the county should update its mutual-aid memorandum of agreement with U.S. Army Garrison Fort Benning, which includes a ranger base near Dahlonega. Lee said the update is routine — "nothing's changed in our mutual aid agreement" — but Fort Benning asked for the updated agreement by the end of the month and staff requested the board advance the item to the voting session that same day.
Lee said the installation requested an expedited turnaround because of Fort Benning's internal timeline. County staff indicated the update had been reviewed and asked the board to approve moving the IGA forward for a final vote at the voting session.
