State Rep. Will Wade honored in Dawson County for sponsoring NextGen 911 law

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia presented State Representative Will Wade with a legislative service award at Dawson County’s June 5 work session for sponsoring House Bill 423, which advances modernization of Georgia’s 911 services.
Todd Edwards, director of government affairs for ACCG, said the bill begins the process of modernizing the state’s Next Generation 911 services and that local leaders in Dawson County have been active on public-safety issues. Representative Will Wade thanked county staff and legislators, and said the bill’s passage included an appropriation of $5,700,000 in state funds for counties to apply for grants. "If you are calling and you're on Georgia 400 ... the 911 operator can help serve you more quickly if they know exactly where you are," Wade said, describing one benefit of upgraded location technology.
Edwards and Wade noted the legislation was supported on the appropriations side and signed by the governor; they described the funding as available to counties as competitive grants rather than a local mandate. The board received the presentation and participated in a brief photo presentation.
