Finance committee asks Reagan rules committee to add finance director to list of appointed positions before hiring

A procedural vote at the Sept. 30 LaSalle County Finance Committee resolved a rules question about creating or appointing a finance director.
Committee members discussed a written note from Jeremiah Adams (provided to committee members) saying the board rules do not currently list the finance director as a position subject to appointment by the county board. The concern was that offering the job without amending the board rules could create procedural ambiguity.
Committee member Craig (name spoken in the meeting) moved to send the request to the Reagan Rules Committee for review; the motion was seconded by Mr. Aubrey. The committee voted in favor—"All in favor? Aye"—to forward the proposed rule change so the full county board can consider it at its next meeting. Committee members said placing the item before the rules committee and then the full board would avoid offering a position that the full board had not yet authorized.
The committee did not make a hiring decision during the Sept. 30 meeting; staff said the rules committee could place the item on the full-board agenda for the county-board meeting in early October.
