Several public commenters asked the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees to allow a longtime volunteer band director to resume volunteering with Loera High School's band program, saying the volunteer has been cleared by investigations and provides mentorship and logistical support.
"He brings a lifetime of experience and musical excellence," Laura Vasquez told the board, speaking on behalf of community members who support the volunteer identified in her remarks. Vasquez said every investigation "found no wrongdoing" and urged the board to restore the volunteer so students have continuity and experienced mentorship during marching season.
Vasquez described the volunteer's role in coaching, helping booster parents with logistics and teaching younger students, saying that the program benefits from his long institutional knowledge and that he has "never held a paid position during these volunteer hours." She asked the board to "demonstrate what restorative trust truly looks like" by reinstating him in a way that supports students.
The board did not respond during public comment; district rules prohibit immediate board responses to speakers during public comment periods, and trustees later directed staff to follow standard protocols for handling volunteer eligibility and background-review outcomes. No formal board action to reinstate the volunteer was recorded on the agenda for this meeting.
