A Punta Gorda resident urged the city to consider the difference between automated meter infrastructure (AMI) and automated meter reading (AMR) systems, and council scheduled further review of utility rates at a workshop.
“My name is Bill Page. When it comes to looking at the AMI versus AMR studies, I would recommend that you're looking at an $800,000 difference,” said Bill Page, a resident offering public comment. He broke the figure down by a homeowner count he used in his calculation and said it worked out to “$57 per homeowner divided by 10 years.”
Council members noted they will have a workshop on the water and sewer-rate item and related meter discussion the following evening. The meeting facilitator told the council, “We will be having a workshop on this item tomorrow night,” giving members time to review the AMI evaluation study results and recommendations ahead of the formal meeting.
Council members and staff did not take a vote on meter procurement during this meeting; the workshop will provide an opportunity for additional questions, data requests and formal direction if council chooses to act after the workshop.
