Westbury Union Free School District held Westbury High School’s 104th commencement ceremony for the Class of 2025, where Principal David Zimbler announced the graduating class achieved a 91% graduation rate and introduced student speakers including salutatorian Diego Monroy.
The ceremony, attended by Board of Education President Robert Traiano Jr. and New York State Senator Ciel Albino, included remarks from Zimbler and a commencement address by Traiano, who referenced the district’s history and longstanding tradition of graduates returning to support the school community. Zimbler told graduates, “Make it a good day, a good life,” and reminded them of the responsibilities that follow graduation.
In prepared remarks, Traiano noted he graduated from Westbury High in 1971 and said the district has a long history of graduates he described as “committed, dedicated, industrious, studious, and relentless” in pursuit of their diplomas. Senator Ciel Albino, identified in the program as an alum of Westbury High, was present and received acknowledgment from the stage.
The class’s salutatorian, Diego Monroy, delivered a summary of his academic and extracurricular achievements cited by the school: principal’s honor roll throughout high school, seven Advanced Placement exams, leadership roles in honor societies, participation in pre‑college programs at Brown University and a research program at Adelphi University, captain of the varsity soccer team, and selection for the Nassau‑Suffolk Band Ensemble. The school announced Monroy will pursue a degree in biomedical engineering at RPI in the fall.
School and district staff listed in the ceremony program included Superintendent Dr. Dupree Chase, assistant superintendents and curriculum directors, the district’s directors of special education and diversity, equity and inclusion, facilities and operations staff, guidance and security supervisors, and representatives of the Westbury High School PTSA and alumni. The program also acknowledged senior class officers and faculty who supported the graduating students.
The district described the gathering as its 104th commencement and recognized several notable alumni during remarks. The ceremony included customary elements such as the presentation of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a musical performance by members of the graduating class.
The graduation marked the formal completion of Westbury High School requirements for the students on stage; the district said the class met New York State education requirements for graduation. The program emphasized family and community support and listed next steps for students including higher education and other post‑secondary plans.
