Council votes unanimously to enter five closed sessions on appointments, legal matters and property

Roanoke City Council voted unanimously on five separate motions Wednesday authorizing closed‑session meetings to discuss personnel, legal and property matters.

Each motion required a formal roll call and the council approved all five items by recorded voice: Mister Nash, Mister Vollison, Miss Powers, Mister Hagen, Miss Sanchez Jones, Vice Mayor Maguire and Mayor Cobb each voted “Aye” on each motion.

The five closed‑session items the council authorized were:

- A meeting to discuss vacancies on city authorities, boards, commissions and committees appointed by council, pursuant to Section 2.2‑3711(A)(1) of the Code of Virginia. - A meeting to consult with legal counsel concerning a prospective business or industry locating or expanding in the central part of the city; the item cited Section 2.2‑3711(A)(5), Code of Virginia. - A meeting to discuss the possible disposal of publicly owned property where public discussion would adversely affect bargaining position or negotiating strategy, citing Section 2.2‑3711(A)(3), Code of Virginia. - A meeting to consult with legal counsel regarding utility services and any impacts caused by the location of a business or industry to the region, citing Section 2.2‑3711(A)(8), Code of Virginia. - A meeting to consult with legal counsel regarding contract obligations involving a city‑owned facility in the central part of the city, citing Section 2.2‑3711(A)(8), Code of Virginia.

Clerks recorded motions and seconds for each item and conducted a roll‑call vote; minutes show the motion makers and seconders for the items included councilmembers Hagen, Sanchez Jones, Vollison, Powers and others as recorded on the agenda. Each motion passed and council recessed to convene the closed meetings later in the day.
