At the docket call in the 187th District Court, Judge Stephanie Boyd ordered judge’s warrants and, in some cases, bond forfeitures for defendants who failed to appear.
The court called multiple matters where defendants did not answer the docket. For Ronnie C. Demas the court issued a judge’s warrant and noted the state requested bond forfeiture after an attempted announcement failed. For Christina Bell Mills, the court issued a judge’s warrant and remanded the defendant without bond; the court said it would reconsider if the defendant made an appearance. For Maria Cisneros, the court granted bond forfeiture and remanded the defendant; again, the court said it would reconsider if the defendant later appeared. The court similarly directed a judge’s warrant for Gerald Harper after the defendant did not answer the docket and the prosecution indicated a bond issue.
Judge Boyd instructed the clerk to note bond forfeitures and to amend bond status as appropriate. The court repeatedly stated it would reconsider warrant or forfeiture orders if defendants subsequently appeared and that these are procedural remedies when a defendant fails to answer docket calls.
