Votes at a glance: Keller council approves contracts and zoning items, tables EV charging decision

At its Aug. 5 meeting the Keller City Council approved several consent contracts and land-use items, rejected or modified others, and tabled the town-center electric vehicle charging station item for further work.
Keller City Council took a string of formal actions Aug. 5 covering procurement, zoning and subdivision items. Key outcomes: consent purchasing contracts passed; one accessory-structure SUP was approved with modification; a retail SUP for used goods was approved; a U-Haul/packing store SUP failed to receive majority support; a final plat was approved; and the Town Center EV charging station matter was tabled for further negotiation.
The council passed consent items F1–F7 (contracts for American Defensive Arts Academy, Lakeside Aquatics Club, Kimley Horn design amendment for the 1709 median landscape project, an emergency sewer replacement purchase to TD Industries, Encore Electric discretionary services for undergrounding as part of South Elm Street reconstruction, and receipt of the city27s quarterly financial and investment reports). The consent package was approved unanimously.
The council revisited an old-business SUP (G1) for a detached accessory structure at 1401 Summer Breeze Court. Council approved the SUP for the increased accessory square footage while denying the variance to encroach the rear setback; staff and the applicant were told to move the structure out of the setback or pursue further survey documentation.
On new-business zoning items, the council approved H2, a specific-use permit allowing Wholesale Plus (a retail store selling vintage and used goods) to operate at 432 N. Main St., Suite 400. H3, an SUP for a packing-and-shipping store (the Ship Shop) that would include truck and trailer rental at 7112 N. Main St., failed to get a majority vote (3-3) and did not pass.
The council approved a final plat with variances for Inspired Ranch (LOT 1 and 1A, Block A) at 1289 Ottinger Road, enabling a 5.1-acre parcel to be subdivided into two single-family lots with a shared access easement; the vote was 5-1.
Finally, G2, the SUP for an automobile electric charging station in Keller Town Center, drew extensive public comment from business owners and residents dissatisfied with the proposed Town Center location. Council voted to table the item to the Aug. 19 meeting and asked the applicant and property manager to continue discussions with affected tenants and return with a revised proposal.
Ending: Council asked staff to track implementation steps for several approved items and to return with follow-up reports where requested. The EV charging item will be revisited at the next regular meeting after additional stakeholder work.
