Leonia reports HIB and vandalism counts for first reporting period; district outlines trainings

Assistant Superintendent Pamela Karamanos presented the district's Student Safety Data System (SSDS) report for the first reporting period of the school year, covering Sept. 1 through Jan. 30.
"For the first reporting period, we had 0 incidents at ACS. We had 14 incidents at the middle school. Out of the 14 ... 1 was vandalism, and 8 was confirmed HIB. And then 2 incidents at the high school, and the 2 incidents at the high school were confirmed HIB," Karamanos said.
Karamanos said the district has expanded training and programming in response. She listed the number of trainings and student programs districtwide and by building: districtwide two trainings; ACS five trainings; LMS three trainings plus two student programs; and LHS two trainings plus six student programs. Karamanos said the district will report the second reporting period (Feb. 1 to June 5) in June.
Board members asked how the current numbers compare to prior years. Karamanos said ACS showed no real change; the high school showed a decrease and the middle school a slight decrease compared with recent reporting periods. She said the district is "still ramping up some of those HIB trainings and programs."
No policy action was taken; the presentation was an informational report required by state reporting rules and will be followed by the second reporting period in June.
