Miriam Nunez, CEO and founder of MJ Better Books in the Northland neighborhood, said she launched a YouTube channel in February 2020 to share tax and business advice and that the firm's work now reaches clients in more than 23 states.

Nunez said the channel grew from her experience in the corporate world and a desire to help an underserved Hispanic community gain access to tax strategies and business-formation guidance. "So in 02/2020, I launched a YouTube channel because I thought, how can I show the people all the knowledge I have and all the things I can do for the businesses?" she said.

Why it matters: Nunez said the videos and her firm's services aim to help prospective and existing small-business owners save money on taxes, form companies and support their families. "We are much more than an accounting service. We are changing people's lives because what we do helps people in their lives," she said.

Nunez described a transition from corporate work to community-focused services. She said friends and family had asked for help with business and tax needs while she was in corporate roles, and that community demand and a lack of accessible information motivated her to provide educational resources. "Throughout my corporate career, I, created solutions and innovations that transform businesses, and I help companies, reach out to success even at the national level," she said.

On the firm's reach and team, Nunez said, "So right now, I can say very proudly that I do have, very top notch team that provides an excellent service. We work in over 23 states, and we have many successful stories." She said MJ Better Books does more than bookkeeping and tax preparation, citing client stories of individuals who were able to start companies and support their families because of the services.

Nunez also commented on her local base. She said she values the Northland neighborhood for its location and safety and praised local networking resources. "I like the Northland neighborhood because of the location, the security. And right now, I know that they do provide a lot of help to, business owners. You know, there is a lot of resources within the community. They provide, many networking events. So I am very happy to be in this community," she said.
