Alpharetta, Ga. — The Design Review Board on Aug. 15 voted 7–0 to approve the exterior elevations and materials for Ashton Atlanta Residential’s townhome portion of the Continuum development, with a condition that the developer provide additional articulation on end units to break up massing.
Ashton Woods’ representatives presented three elevation styles intended for the 73 three‑story, 3‑ and 4‑bedroom for‑sale townhomes. The board approved the proposed material palette — light brick options, Nichiha cement siding (vertical and horizontal profiles), black metal awnings, black window/door frames and carriage‑style garage doors — while requesting additional visual interest on side elevations that face streets or are exposed as end units.
Board members asked the applicant to add features such as additional fenestration, soldier‑course or banding at the base, herringbone or brick inset details, or other masonry articulation on those exposed elevations. The applicant agreed to supply representative revised details showing the added articulation for staff approval before proceeding.

- DRB motion to approve Ashton Atlanta Residential townhome exterior plans for Continuum with the condition that the applicant provide further articulation on end units and additional fenestration/interest to be reviewed and approved by staff. Vote: 7–0 in favor.
Project details and clarifications
- Unit mix and size: 73 total townhomes; likely unit sizes approximately 2,200–2,500 square feet (developer estimate). All units are three stories; no elevators were proposed.
- Rear elevations: designers proposed inset covered porches, Nichiha vertical siding to create contrast, and carriage‑style garage doors (Wayne Dalton model noted). AC condensers: one condenser per unit; locations shown between units or offset for end units and will be screened with landscaping and painted to match brick where visible.
Why it matters
The approved elevations establish the public‑facing character of the residential portion of Continuum. The board’s condition is intended to ensure variety and to avoid a repetitive “marching soldiers” effect on long runs of connected townhome façades.
What’s next
The applicant will provide additional articulation details for exposed end elevations; staff will review and issue administrative approval for those refinements. Landscaping, site plan elements and the amenity building will return to the board in later submittals.
