Kinneytown dam removal design advances; consultants developing alternatives and public workshop planned

NVCOG staff reported progress on the Kinneytown portion of the Naugatuck River Greenway and on dam removal design work.
Staff said GEI consultants are completing data collection and base mapping for the dam removal design and that Stimson, a landscape architecture firm from Boston, visited the site with NVCOG team members to walk the property and begin conceptualizing trail and landscape options. "They have 3 landscape architects come out yesterday and just walked the property and just sort of get a lay of the land," staff said.
NVCOG staff said alternatives will depend in part on the dam removal approach, but that significant preliminary work — surveying, base mapping and conceptual landscape options — is already underway. The team intends to discuss options with the two municipalities that share the site before holding a public workshop, which was tentatively scheduled for late fall or winter.
