Council approves Axon taser purchase and five-year body‑camera maintenance contract

The Harpers Ferry Town Council approved two police-department equipment items Tuesday: payment for four previously authorized tasers and a five-year service agreement for officer body cameras that includes past-due maintenance charges.
Debbie, the town financial officer, said the tasers were purchased under prior council authorization in late 2024 but were not carried into the fiscal budget; council approved a payment of $16,742.42 to Axon Enterprise to complete that purchase. The motion to pay was approved 7-0.
Separately, council approved a five-year service agreement with Axon Enterprise for body-worn camera equipment and maintenance at an annual cost of $4,133.58, and also agreed to pay a one-time $3,167.10 for fiscal-year 2025 maintenance that had not previously been billed. Council members discussed contract cancellation rights and staff said the maintenance contract can be terminated in future years. The motion passed 7-0.
Budget and Finance recommended the maintenance upgrade to ensure newer camera hardware and batteries that last full shifts; council approved the associated budget revision and said the maintenance contract could be broken by future councils if needed.
