South Charleston council members and staff announced details for upcoming community events, including the Mound Festival scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, a lifeguard certification class in September at the recreation center, and a county cleanup on Oct. 4 at Corner Fourth and C.
Marjorie told the council the Mound Festival has 112 vendor spaces filled — the most the event has ever had — and noted new and returning craft vendors. Council members encouraged residents to attend and arrive early to visit vendor booths.
A staff member announced a lifeguard certification class in September, described as a Friday evening plus Saturday and Sunday format, open to people seeking lifeguard certification through the recreation center. The class organizer said they routinely need lifeguards and encouraged interested young residents to register.
Council member Jake announced a county cleanup event scheduled for Oct. 4 at Corner Fourth and C for South Charleston. The council also discussed logistics for the Mound Festival and previously approved a street-closure request to accommodate festival needs, including closing Ashby to allow unloading the petting zoo trailers and blocking both sides of the mound for festival activities.
These items were presented as community announcements and there was no formal vote recorded on the festival staffing and advertisement items beyond the previously recorded street-closure approval.
