PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — At its Sept. 22 meeting, the Punta Gorda Utility Advisory Board reviewed a proposed bylaw amendment that would change the absence-forfeiture policy from removal on a third absence to removal on a fourth absence within a 12-month period.
Alexandra Friend, board recorder, explained that another advisory board requested the change and that staff presented updated draft language in the meeting materials. The proposed amendment would permit one additional absence before a member forfeits a seat.
Board members discussed options such as distinguishing excused and unexcused absences but agreed staff-level administration made that approach complex. Members noted volunteers give their time and that added flexibility helps retain members who occasionally must miss meetings. Several members requested staff notify board members in advance when the proposed amendment is scheduled for City Council consideration.
